Your mind will go into practical mode, reminding you that there are lots and lots of things to consider, people to contact and so much to be done. Don’t be overwhelmed, you have plenty of time.

P.s. years of watching romantic movies couldn’t prepare you for what’s to come! So, where do you begin?

{As always, our blogs are not written to provide strict instructions or order, we simply want to share our thoughts, tips and tricks from experience and with a wealth of knowledge}

Before you tell your family and your friends, take a moment or two, or three {!} to intimately celebrate this incredible milestone in your relationship. Take lots of photos, you’ll never get this time back, so capture it as much as possible. Show off your ring and your growing love!

You’ll get well and truly caught in in wedding planning soon, so it’s important to savour this time before you let everyone else in on your amazing news.

Once you’ve had enough time to celebrate together, you may want to let people know about the new ring on your finger! Traditionally, you should tell your parents and immediate family first + then whoever you feel is next in line! Your loved ones will appreciate the opportunity to congratulate you directly.

If you want to continue the celebrations, host an engagement party with your nearest and dearest or take an engagement-moon to enjoy more one-on-one time.

Above all, do what feels right to you and your partner, not what you think you should do! 03.
Get your ring sized + make sure you’ve got insurance!
Ok. This isn’t the most ‘fun’ wedding task but it’s SUPER important!

Chances are your ring may not fit perfectly, unless your partner is incredibly organised. So, as soon as possible, get the ring resized.

Your beautiful new engagement ring needs to be protected, just in case anything happens. Your super organised partner may have this covered, but if not, then look in to jewellery insurance that covers accidental damage. You could speak to your home insurance provider about adding it to your cover. To make any claim easier, take photos of your ring and keep valuation documents safe.

When, where, what, HOW?

When you are both ready to start the wedding planning process, the first thing you’ll need to do is TALK! The very best thing to do is to communicate with each other before discussing wedding details with anyone else.

If you take this time now, you can save a heap of frustration further down the road. Here are some example questions to get things rolling:

When should we have the wedding? - What are you thinking? - Where should it be held? - Do you want to keep things small or have a big celebration? - What do we both want and what are our priorities?

Set a date, even if it’s not THE date!

Following the congratulations, wanting to see your ring and asking for all the proposal details, your friends and family are likely to ask “when’s the wedding?”. Having an idea of the season, year or desired month in mind will provide a little more direction as you start planning.

Don’t forget that the most desirable wedding dates and venues get booked far in advance, so if you’re hoping to get hitched in the next year or two, it’s a wise idea to decide on possible dates as soon as possible. Find out what works for you both and your immediate family.

Set a budget

Importantly, talk about budget. No one really likes to talk about this, but you can’t really move forward with any of you wedding plans without discussing this. The reality lies here and may determine so many factors you will have to consider for your wedding day, the venue, guest list, wedding dress etc!

It is incredibly useful to set up a spreadsheet and list all the items that you might need to buy. It’s handy to keep this updated throughout your wedding planning with details of when you’ve paid suppliers and when payments are due. This WILL help reduce those overwhelming feelings and will help you to stay on track!

Gather inspiration.

Instagram and Pinterest are the most perfect of places to begin! Search for hashtags such as #weddingvenues #weddinginspo.

Creating a mood board will help to unleash your creativity as well as keeping you focused on a colour scheme/theme. Keep this to yourself for organisational purposes or share with your wedding planner, friends or whoever else to view and contribute!

Research Wedding Venues

This is a BIG task. Don’t panic, you don’t need to source a venue right away. Making enquiries into the ones you have had on your radar, or that catch your eye will help you to solidify your budget, potential wedding date and the size of your wedding party.

The most perfect place to begin, is deciding on where you want to marry. Is there somewhere you’ve always wanted to marry? Somewhere that means the absolute world to you both? Or perhaps there is a style of venue you prefer.

Venue research will save you lots of stress in the long-run! 09.
